The Post-16 Evidence database service is closing . Evidence on the use of technology in the Further Education and Skills sector can be found on the Becta website, the Joint information Systems Committee website, the Learning and Skills Improvement Service Excellence Gateway, the Learning and Skills Network website, the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education website, and the Association of Learning Providers website.
The content at this location will no longer be updated. If you have any queries, please contact Becta's webkeeper.
This site is provided for partners from the post-16 e-learning programme who are involved in conducting or commissioning research relating to ICT in the post-16 sector. This interface provides access to an evidence based database consisting of documents (research reports etc) which relate directly to ICT in the post-16 sector and have the capability to inform policy.
A large portion of the documents included in the database have been drawn from Becta's partner organisations (including DfES, LSDA, LSC, JISC and NIACE). Where possible, the database holds both the full text and summaries of research documents. Alternatively, you will find links to external sites where the documents may be obtained.
As well as the full text, the database contains document specific metadata which is crucial to enabling you to make efficient use of the database contents. The metadata for each document is used to semi automatically generate the abstract and an Index for the document. The Index is a numerical value derived from a consideration of the type of study, the breadth of its participants and the sophistication of its statistical analysis.
The database includes programme-relevant evidence and research in post-16 e-learning. The content comprises large-scale and national-level studies and surveys, plus pilots/case studies of e-learning policy innovation (e.g. regional initiatives) and selected smaller studies which add explanatory value to findings from larger studies. As the database will be used to plan research and evaluation activities, it also includes details of current and forthcoming research projects as well as findings from completed research.
